MANILA – PBA star James Yap said he’ll maintain laser-like focus on his game despite his most recent quarrel with ex-wife, actress Kris Aquino.

Yap, whose San Mig Coffee team will square off with league leader Alaska on Saturday, said his personal life won’t affect his performance on the hardcourt.

“Huwag silang mag-aalala sa akin. Kaya nga PBA player ako, professional akong player,” the two-time Most Valuable Player told Spin.ph’s Snow Badua.

Yap’s deteriorating relationship with Aquino has hogged the limelight again when the latter secured a temporary protection order (TPO) against the 6’3” shooting guard before a Makati City court.

The actress accused Yap of making “sexual advances” in front of her son Bimby last December 3.

“Sanay na ako sa ganito. Talagang tinatatagan ko na lang ang loob ko,” Yap said of his rocky relationship with his former wife.

He said he never brings his emotional baggage to games, citing his responsibilities with his team.

The 2012 Commissioner's Cup Finals MVP plays a crucial role in San Mig Coffee's rotation and is a much-needed player for the team's campaign to retain the crown.

“Basta’t may problema ako, iniiwan ko lang yun sa bahay. Hinding hindi ko iyon dinadala sa laro, practice man o actual game,” said Yap.

Attesting to his dedication to the game was his second season MVP award, which he won at the time when he parted ways with Aquino.

“Saka tinitignan ko na lang na sa tuwing may problema, mas lumalakas ako. Yung last time nga, nag second MVP pa ako, di ba?” said Yap.
