How La Salle won the UAAP general championship
MANILA, Philippines – For the first time in history, the De La Salle University have won the UAAP Season 75 general championship, ending the 14-year dominance of the University of Santo Tomas.
The Green Archers finished with 293 points to 277 for the Growling Tigers, who missed out on their 39th over-all UAAP championship.
La Salle dominated women’s volleyball, women’s chess, women’s table tennis, women’s tennis and women’s taekwondo, while also finishing second in five other events and third in 11 others.
UST, meanwhile, won titles in women’s beach volleyball, men’s chess, men’s table tennis, men’s taekwondo, and men’s and women’s judo.
The Tigers also booked six second-place finishes and four third-place finishes.
The Ateneo de Manila University, who won five championships in Season 75, wound up in third place with 205 points, edging the Far Eastern University (200 points).
The University of the Philippines finished fifth (197 points), hosts National University sixth (158), University of the East seventh (142) and Adamson University eighth (101).
The champions for each event are awarded 15 points, while the second-placers are awarded 12, and the third-placers, 10 points.
Teams from fourth to eight places receive eight, six, four, two and one point.
The closing ceremony of the UAAP Season 75 will be held on March 23, Saturday, at SM North EDSA.
