MANILA, Philippines – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters kept their slim playoff hopes alive after upsetting the B-Meg Llamados, 101-95, in the elimination round of the PBA Commissioners Cup Wednesday night at the Araneta Coliseum.

According to PBA.ph, it was the second straight game that the E-Painters won to avoid getting eliminated from the playoff picture.

“We’re trying hard to prolong our season and I think we played our best game in the tourney tonight,” said Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao.

Import Duke Crews had a double-double of 24 points and 16 rebounds, and the E-Painters connected on 10 of their 23 attempts from beyond the arc.

But Guiao was more pleased with their defense and rebounding, as Rain or Shine controlled the boards 52-44, including 22 offensive rebounds.

“We defended and rebounded very well in our last two games and that’s the key, giving us hope for a playoff or a decent finish in the tourney,” Guiao said.

Rain or Shine has won two straight games and is now tied with the Petron Blaze Boosters and the Meralco Bolts with a 3-5 record, good for a share of the eighth place.

B-Meg import Denzel Bowles led all scorers with 38 points, but he got little help from his local teammates. PJ Simon was the only other B-Meg player in double figures with 19 points.

James Yap struggled with only seven points.

“Our defense on James was also a key. Simon scored his usual number, but in order for B-Meg to play well, they need their double-barrel to keep firing,” Guiao noted.

B-Meg dropped to a 5-3 record. They are in second place in the team standings behind the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters.
