MANILA - NBA star Kevin Durant shocked basketball fans when he moved to the Golden State Warriors two years ago, but behind the scenes, team co-owner Peter Guber was working his "magic."
Guber said he told Warriors general manager Bob Myers that Durant would be "making a difference" with the team. At that time in 2016, the Warriors had just relinquished the championship to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
With Durant on board, the Warriors regained the NBA championship the following year.
Magic in leadership stands for motivating one's audience through goals, interactivity and content, said Guber, who is also CEO of Mandalay Entertainment.
In sports and in films, Guber said leaders should connect with their audiences emotionally to address their needs.
"Human beings crave connectivity. How do you create that kind of interactivity? Make them engage in the process," Guber told the ANC Leadership Forum in Manila.
"Authenticity is powerful. What you have to really do is to focus on the emotional transportation. You want to leave them with an experience," he said.
Guber is the third speaker in the ANC Leadership Forum series, after Virgin Group chairman and founder Richard Branson in 2016 and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright in 2017.
