MANILA, Philippines – Talk 'N Text is out to extend its winning run to 5 games when it meets Meralco in the PBA Commissioner's Cup on Friday.
The Tropang Texters, who top of the standings with an unblemished 4-0 record, seek to get nearer to a twice-to-beat bonus in the quarterfinals that will come after the 9-game elimination round.
Talk 'N Text, however, will have a formidable foe in Meralco that has collected 3 straight victories through the help of sweet-shooting import Brian Butch.
“Against Meralco the goal is to continue to play solid basketball on both offense and defense,” said Topang Texters coach Norman Black on the PBA website.
The 6’10” Butch is a threat in both the outside and inside the shaded lane, averaging 32.67 points and 20.67 rebounds per game.
Gary David, Reynel Hugnatan, and Jared Dillinger will also provide added threats in the scoring department.
“Concerns would be on how to contain Brian Butch and also defend their 3-point shooting. Jared Dillinger will also be back so we will have to do a good defensive job versus his penetrations,” Black said.
Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio, for his part, said they want to limit Talk ‘N Text’s main scorers.
The Tropang Texters’ reinforcement, Richard Howell, has been norming 26.25 points and 20.5 rebounds per game.
Jayson Castro, Jimmy Alapag, and Ranidel de Ocampo are also capable of creating scoring opportunities that could damage the Bolts.
“They are hot. They have been playing well on both ends of the floor. Critical for us to disrupt their rhythm offensively,” said Gregorio.
