MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight Johny Hendricks is excited to finally get the opportunity to test his skills against long-time champion Georges St-Pierre.
He also believes he has enough power to finish the Canadian star.
Hendricks earned a shot at the welterweight champion after winning six straight fights, including an entertaining scrap against former interim champion Carlos Condit last weekend.
“I believe I’ve got better wrestling than (St-Pierre),” Hendricks said, as quoted by ESPN UK. “I did it since I was five.”
“I also go back to Oklahoma State and train all the time. So yeah, I believe I’m a better wrestler,” he added.
Hendricks, who holds one-punch knockout power especially in his left hand, is also looking to finish the welterweight champion.
“I hit harder than him,” he said. “That’s a proven fact. I’m just excited for the opportunity. Hopefully I can finish him. That’s my goal.”
Nicknamed “Bigg Rigg,” Hendricks has built a 15-1 record in mixed martial arts, with his lone loss coming to Rick Story in December 2010. He has won the UFC’s Knockout of the Night honors three times, and Fight of the Night honors once.
