MANILA, Philippines – Fiery head coach Yeng Guiao says the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters need to put together a strong effort against San Miguel tonight as the Beermen will likely be out for revenge in their PBA Commissioners Cup showdown.

Rain or Shine had eliminated San Miguel – then playing as the Petron Blaze Boosters – in five games in their PBA Philippine Cup semi-finals series.

But Guiao told that the Beermen have changed a lot since, tinkering again with their roster and their coaching staff.

“Parang matagal na panahon na ‘yun kung titingnan mo sila ngayon. Their roster has improved again, lalong tumibay,” said Guiao.

“I’m sure they are aching to get back at us, with an even stronger line-up. We need to play at the highest level all game long to stay with them,” he added.

Guiao also observed that the Beermen – with newcomers Sol Mercado and Rico Maeirhofer as well as import Kevin Jones – are among the teams to beat in the Commissioners Cup.

“We were very lucky to get past by them in the all-Filipino semis,” said Guiao.

The Beermen have a 2-1 record so far in the conference, losing to Talk N Text in their previous game in the debut of new import Kevin Jones, who replaced NBA veteran Josh Boone as the SMB reinforcement.

Guiao says Jones will be a tough challenge for their import, Alex McLean, who has been solid but not spectacular for the Elasto Painters in their first two games.

“Our import is struggling a little bit, but he will learn the ropes. He’s a sold, fundamentally sound player,” said Guiao of McLean. “(He’s) not athletic, but we can survive if he scores in the 20s and rebounds well.”

Jones, a former player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, will be tested by Rain or Shine’s “Extra Rice Inc.” line-up as well.

Game time is at 8:00 p.m. at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
