MANILA – Filipino fighter Michael Farenas will battle a former opponent of Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao for the WBC Asian Boxing Council super-featherweight belt on March 21 at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
PhilBoxing reported that Farenas will take on Mexican Hector Velasquez, who was knocked out by Pacquiao when they fought in September 2005.
The 29-year-old Farenas has been on a roll since losing a decision to Cuban Yuri Gamboa in December 2012, winning his last three fights by stoppage.
His most recent fight was a second-round knockout of Jesus Rios in December 2013.
“Handang-handa na ako sa laban. Alam kong hindi basta-basta si Velasquez, pero gagawin ko ang lahat para mapatumba siya,” Farenas told PhilBoxing.
The 39-year-old Velasquez is a veteran of 80 boxing matches, but has alternated wins and losses in his last four fights.
Most recently, he beat Oscar Arenas in January in a bout held in Mexico.
