MANILA – Filipino fighter Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista will take on a Mexican when he makes his boxing comeback on May 10 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Ronnie Nathanielsz of PhilBoxing reported that Bautista will face 22-year-old Mexican Sergio ‘El Cuate” Villanueva in a lightweight showdown.
The bout will take place in the undercard of world champion Donnie Nietes’ defense of his WBO light-flyweight belt against Moises Fuentes.
Bautista had retired from competition after losing to Jose Ramirez in April 2013 via a split decision, but is attempting to get his career back on track.
Villanueva, meanwhile, has won 4 of his last 5 fights, most recently taking a unanimous decision over Fabian Vladimir Rios in a bout in Mexico.
