MANILA, Philippines – Filipino cue artist Carlo Biado downed Taiwanese Yang Ching-shun, 9-3, to win their match-up in the Philippine Bigtime Billiards (PBB) Face Off series, dubbed “Philippines vs Asia,” last Saturday at the Pagcor Airport Casino in Parañaque City.
After a two-all deadlock in the fourth frame, Yang never had a chacne to return to the table after Biado raced to a 7-2 lead.
The win was worth $5,000 for Biado, while Yang settled for $2,500 in the race-to-nine, winner’s break format.
“Matapos makatabla si Yang sa fourth frame, hindi ko na siya talaga binigyan ng pagkakataon na makabalik sa laro,” said Biado.
With Biado’s victory, Team Philippines cut into Team Asia’s lead, 2-3.
Team Asia’s three victories came when Ko Pin-Yi of Chinese Taipei defeated Efren “Bata” Reyes last February 18, and Chang Jung-lin booked victories over Lee Vann Corteza last March 3 and then Dennis Orcollo last March 10.
The Philippines’ first victory came courtesy of Francisco “Django” Bustamante, who defeated Ko, 9-7, last February 25.
The PBB Face Off series resumes with a match pitting Yang against Bustamante on March 24. Chang Yu Long of Chinese Taipei then faces off against Ronato Alcano on March 31. By Marlon Bernardino.
