PBA: Magnolia flexes inside-outside muscle to beat NLEX, take 2-1 semis lead

Jio Jalalon scored 25 points and Ian Sangalang added 24, and Magnolia's execution and patience served the Hotshots well in a 106-99 victory over NLEX in the semifinals of the PBA Philippine Cup at Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.

The win gave Magnolia a 2-1 lead in their best-of-7 series.

Behind 87-85 early in the fourth quarter, Magnolia went on a 12-2 run over a 4-minute span, 10 of those coming from Jalalon and Sangalang to take control.

While Sangalang operated in the paint, Jalalon waxed hot from the outside, making 4-of-5 3-pointers on a night Magnolia shot 38 of 73 overall from the field (52%).

The Hotshots were also 11 of 21 from behind the arc (52%).

Game 4 is at Mall of Asia Arena Friday.

Rome dela Rosa added 17 points, while Paul Lee chipped in 14 points and 6 assists.

Kiefer Ravena scored 20 points for NLEX, which engaged Magnolia in a see-saw battle until the Hotshots' critical run midway through the fourth quarter.
