MANILA – Air21 restrained Barako Bull's high-scoring import Joshua Dollard on Friday to give the Energy Colas a 103-85 thrashing in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Dollard, who averaged 44.5 points in his first two games with Barako Bull, was limited by Air21 Express to just 12 points.
In contrast, Air21's import Herve Lamizana had 24 points, 20 in the third canto where Air21 broke away from Barako Bull, 75-57.
The Express also got a boost from Asi Taulava, Macmac Cardona and new recruit Aldrech Ramos for their second win in 3 starts.
Ramos had 17 points while Cardona churned out 15. Taulava tallied a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Air21 coach Franz Pumaren, however, was most appreciative of Lamizana’s defensive efforts.
“Our primary concern is to try hold and down Dollard, minimize his input. Herve was able to limit the point production of Dollard. He gave us another dimension,” said Pumaren in the PBA website.
Lamizana was more productive in the second half, where the Express led by as many as 35 points.
“He’s like a diesel. It’s only in the second half that he gets his rhythm,” said Pumaren.
Denok Miranda and JC Intal each scored 18 points for Energy Cola, while Willie Miller added 10. What hurt Barako Bull most was Dollard’s lack of scoring contribution.
Dollard only came up with 4-for-16 field goal shooting to go with his 9 rebounds.
