Father predicts stoppage victory for Floyd
Unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather Jr. is not known as a hard puncher, but it would not surprise his trainer and father, Floyd Sr., if the pound-for-pound king registers a knockout victory over Marcos Maidana in May.
Mayweather is trying to extend his undefeated streak to 46 fights against the Argentine brawler, and his father believes he can do it in spectacular fashion.
“Floyd is the truth,” the older Mayweather said in an interview with Fight Hype. “I will tell you this right now. Maidana… is gonna get picked to pieces.”
“I will tell this right here. I may be wrong, but I believe I’m right. Even with the age (difference), Maidana gets stopped,” he predicted.
This, despite Mayweather not being known as a knockout artist.
“He said Mayweather ain’t had a stoppage in a while. Well, Mayweather ain’t no damn banger,” Floyd Sr. said. “He’s a scientific fighter.”
“When you go with science, he can knock you out or he can just beat you up, period,” he added.
But Floyd Sr. also pointed out that even though his son is not a hard puncher, he has a decent knockout rate.
“Lil Floyd has got 45 fights, and he got 26 knockouts,” the controversial trainer pointed out. “He’s by far not a puncher, but if you look at any book that a fighter’s got – he’s got 45 fights and he’s got 26 knockouts.”
“Come on, man. There’s a whole bunch of fighters who are supposedly knockout punchers but ain’t got that rate,” he added.
