MANILA, Philippines – Talk ‘N Text guard Jayson Castro has been named the PBA Player of the Week after leading the Texters to a 2-0 record after the first week of the PBA Commissioners Cup.
Castro averaged 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in TNT’s two victories against Alaska and Air21.
He scored 12 points as the Texters opened the conference with an 85-72 rout of the defending champions Aces, then followed it up with a 22-point performance in powering TNT past the Express, 95-91.
The Texters’ are currently tied with the San Miguel Beermen on top of the league standings with identical 2-0 records.
TNT head coach Norman Black said their defense has been the key in their first two victories.

“It’s very important to have a good start in the conference, because we look at this conference more as a spring, so we really need to have a good start,” he added.
Castro beat out reigning Most Valuable Player Arwind Santos of San Miguel Beer for the weekly award.
Castro and Santos will meet on Friday when the Texters and the Beermen contest the solo lead.
