MANILA, Philippines – Despite being replaced by San Miguel Beer just two games into the conference, import Josh Boone thanked his team and wished replacement Kevin Jones the best of luck.
Boone had back-to-back solid performances for the Beermen, both of which were victories. He averaged 24 points and 18.5 rebounds in two games, including a 32-point, 21-rebound explosion against Ginebra.
Despite this, San Miguel announced on Monday that they would replace Boone with Kevin Jones.
“We would like to thank Josh for his effort and professionalism. He showed a lot of heart while wearing a Beermen uniform,” San Miguel said in a statement. “We look forward to enjoying Josh’s future success as he will always be a member of the Beermen family.”
“Thank you again #SanMiguelFamily for your support,” Boone posted on his Twitter account. “Unfortunately, some decisions are just outside my control. Good luck the rest of the season.”
To Kevin Jones, he said: “Good luck to you out here man. Continue what we started this year. Your teammates will have your back for sure, they are a great group.”
Jones, a 24-year-old former NBA D-League All-Star, thanked Boone and said he is already looking forward to playing with SMB.
“Thanks man I really appreciate that, you’re a great guy and player, and I will play with the same heart you played with,” Jones said in reply to Boone.
“I am officially a member of the San Miguel Beermen! I am very excited to practice with my new team tomorrow,” he also wrote, adding the hashtag #FearTheBeer.
“I have a lot of respect for the history of the team and will do my best to try to add to that great history,” Jones added.
The Beermen are currently tied on top of the league standings with Talk ‘N Text, with identical 2-0 records. The two rival squads will break that deadlock when they meet on Friday.
