MANILA – The San Miguel Beermen defeated the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 112-96, behind import Josh Boone's double-double performance in the 2014 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner's Cup on Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The four-year NBA veteran, who is reportedly set to be replaced by Kevin Jones, scored 32 points and grabbed 21 rebounds to lead the Beermen in their victory over the Kings, said the PBA website.
Boone alone matched the 21 combined rebounds of Ginebra big men Leon Rodgers, Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar.
Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter and Sol Mercado also chipped in double-digit points in their win over Ginebra.
Santos scored 18 points, Lassiter scored 15 and Mercado scored 14 points.
San Miguel led from start to finish and won despite missing Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference winner Junmar Fajardo, who missed the game due to a sprained left ankle.
Last Friday, Boone also led the Beermen with 30 rebounds and 15 markers in their 94-76 win over the Meralco Bolts.
With the win, the Beermen are off to a 2-0 start in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
Meanwhile, according to the PBA website, Boone's replacement arrived on Saturday and is set to join the Beermen in practice on Monday.
