MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beer center June Mar Fajardo is optimistic that he will get to play on Sunday when the Beermen face off against the Barangay Ginebra Kings for the first time in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.

Fajardo, the Best Player of the Conference in the Philippine Cup, did not get to face off against Ginebra behemoths Greg Slaughter and Japeth Aguilar in that conference, but believes he will get to do so this afternoon even as he is listed as day-to-day.

“Gagaling na ito,” said Fajardo, who has a sprained left ankle, in a report on the league website.

Both San Miguel and Ginebra are looking for their second straight victory after winning in contrasting fashions last Friday.

In its San Miguel Beer debut, the Beermen had little trouble dispatching of Meralco, 94-76, with import Josh Boone stepping up in Fajardo’s absence to tally 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Ginebra, for its part, outlasted Barako Bull in overtime, 108-104, with import Leon Rodgers scoring 31 points, five of them in the extension.

Game time is at 5:15 pm.
