MANILA, Philippines – Talk 'N Text coach Norman Black is seeing good things from import Richard Howell.

Howell's dominating presence inside the paint enabled the Tropang Texters to manhandle the Alaska Aces, 85-72, last Wednesday.

The 6'8" bruiser hauled down 33 rebounds despite managing just 15 points against the Aces.

“He’s an inside presence. He’s a good rebounder and good defender. He’s a good inside player and a man on the post. The big difference with him and the other bigs is that he’s not really a back to the basket post-up player, but more of a post player who faces up and makes quick moves to the basket,” Black said in the PBA website.

Black also welcomed Howell’s arrival after big man Ali Peek retired.

The 39-year-old Peek has been bothered by back problems early in the year, prompting the Talk ‘N Text coach to look for alternatives.

“Ali retiring is something we saw coming… We’ll miss Ali, but this conference, we have big imports. So we hope the import can take the place of Ali as the center of the team,” said Black.

This Saturday, the Tropang Texters will next face the Air21 Express, which defeated the GlobalPort Batang Pier last Wednesday.

Black said is confident that his current lineup will hold up against the Express despire a number of injured players.

“We’ve got some players injured but we’ll be fine. As to what we’re seeing right now, so far, so good,” Black said.
