MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao’s best friend and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez is elated to see the “Pacman” look so impressive in training camp as the Filipino superstar prepares for his April 12 rematch against American Timothy Bradley Jr.
PhilBoxing’s Eddie Alinea reported that Fernandez was highly impressed with what Pacquiao has been showing in training, which also includes playing basketball aside from his usual routine in the gym.
“Did you see how he moved in sparring? It’s like when we were preparing for (Oscar) De La Hoya,” Fernandez said, as quoted by Alinea.
“Ang bilis, at parang hindi napapagod. Ganyan siya lagi sa araw-aaw naming training session,” he added. “Ang lakas ng kamay, ang bilis ng paa at kamay, ang linaw ng mata.”
Fernandez said Pacquiao’s performance reminded him of how the boxer used to move back when he was still a young and up-and-coming boxer.
“Para ko siyang nakikita noong nagsisimula pa lamang kami,” he said.
Fernandez is encouraged by Pacquiao’s performance, especially as the “Pacman” is highly motivated to beat Bradley and avenge his controversial June 2012 loss to the American.
“He needs to be at his best in terms of physical condition, because as he himself announced, he wants to win this time not only impressively, but by knockout,” Fernandez said.
Pacquiao lost to Bradley when they fought in June 2012, ending up on the losing end of a split decision that critics said was among the worst in the history of the sport.
