MANILA, Philippines - Age-groupers in Dumaguete take center stage beginning today as they lead the chase for top honors and ranking points in the Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala regional age group tennis circuit presented by Tecnifibre at the Praxevilla Tennis Club in Dumaguete City.
“We are inviting everyone to join in this year’s edition of Palawan Pawnshop regional age group here in our home courts,” said Dr. Nick Uypitching, president Praxevilla Tennis Club.
Junior players from La Carlota and Pontevedra in Bacolod, San Carlos, Siquijor and other nearBy provinces have confirmed participation in the four-day tournament sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association, headed by president and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez,
Registration is free with listup still ongoing for the fifth leg of the 29-stage nationwide circuit put up by Palawan Pawnshop in cooperation with Technifibre to provide the youth, especially in the countryside, a highly competitive series of tournaments.
“This is a good opportunity for our young players. I’ve been playing tennis the last five decades and only lately did we have a truly junior program that is nationwide in scope through the effort of Palawan Pawnshop,” said Uypitching.
Events on tap are the boys’ and girls’ 12-, 14- 16-, and 18-and-under and the 10-unisex division.
“Palawan Pawnshop has been in the forefront of tennis development for years and we will continue providing our youth top-notch tournaments like this,” said Palawan Pawnshop COO Bobby Castro. “This tournament will surely inspire our young players to achieve a higher level of play.”
Expected to lead the cast are Elmar Christian Lagat and Angela Cabaral, who nailed two titles apiece in last year’s staging of the event in Dumaguete.
