Salvacion gets nod as week's best player
MANILA, Philippines – Sunday Salvacion’s spectacular performance for Meralco over the weekend earned him the Player of the Week award.
Salvacion’s 20-point output, highlighted by a buzzer beater that lifted Meralco to a 90-89 win over GlobalPort, was enough argument to merit him the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week plum for the period of February 18 to 24.
“Always a blessing to have a warrior like Sunday,” said Meralco coach Ryan Gregorio in the league’s official website.
What impressed Gregorio is that Salvacion was ready to deliver even after languishing at the bench during their first four games in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
“He was languishing at the far end of our bench in our first four games but it did not discourage him at all. Instead, he took it like a grizzled veteran who did not let the opportunity slip away,” said Gregorio.
“A good lesson in life, that when your number is called always be in the moment.”
The win enabled Meralco score its first victory after losing three straight games.
Salvacion said he only did his job, which is to win the game for his team.
“Ganu’n lang naman tayo palagi, na kapag tinawag handang mag-deliver kung ano [ang] kaya,” he said.
Ironically Gregorio brought Salvacion in to defend GlobalPort’s scorer Gary David.
But Salvacion did more than just defend, he also went 7-of-9 from the field.
