MANILA, Philippines – Puerto Rican boxing star Miguel Cotto is reportedly heading to the Philippines to train alongside his former foe Manny Pacquiao, who is preparing for a rematch against WBO welterweight titlist Timothy Bradley.
Hustle Boss quoted an unnamed source that Cotto will be joining Pacquiao at the latter’s training camp in General Santos City.
"Cotto is coming next week," said the source.
Both boxers are currently being coached by the same boxing trainer, Freddie Roach. Ironically, Pacquiao recorded his last stoppage victory against the Puerto Rican fighter in 2009.
Cotto, who is due for a WBC middleweight title fight against Sergio Martinez, reportedly needs a left-handed sparring partner and Pacquiao could be just the guy he's looking for.
Roach was earlier quoted as saying that Pacquiao might end up training with Cotto in the near future since they have already become friends.
The trainer said Cotto may go as far as sparring with his former foe but admitted that these sessions may not be like when they fought four years ago.
"They’re good friends now, so I’m not sure how hard they’ll go," Roach said in ESPN UK.
