MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Lady Spikers aim to return to the UAAP women’s volleyball finals for the fifth straight year when they face the dangerous National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs in the Final Four.
After dropping their season opener against the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), the Lady Spikers have won 13 straight games to clinch the top seed and a twice-to-beat advantage in the semi-finals of the Season 75 tournament.
The two-time defending champions can move a step closer to a three-peat if they beat the Lady Bulldogs in Saturday’s Final Four match at the Araneta Coliseum.
But momentum is on the side of NU, who outlasted UST in a playoff for the last Final Four spot last Wednesday.
Getting solid contributions from veteran Cai Nepomuceno as well as newcomer DinDin Santiago, the Lady Bulldogs dispatched the Tigresses in four sets to make their first semi-finals appearance in school history.
La Salle won both matches in the elimination round, but the Lady Bulldogs pushed them to the limit in a five-set battle last January 19.
In that game, four NU players scored in double digits as they took the lead after three sets, but Ara Galang and the Lady Spikers dominated the final two frames.
Game time is at 2 p.m.
