MANILA – With Floyd Mayweather Jr. transferring to Showtime, Bob Arum said HBO Sports will probably dangle a bonus to keep Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez with the network.
Before his jump to CBS’ Showtime, Mayweather fought under HBO for several years and was one of its biggest boxing stars.
Minus the controversial American boxer, Arum believes the cable TV network will make efforts to keep its hold on its remaining stars.
“The prospects are very good especially since the Floyd Mayweather Jr. deal with Showtime. We can possibly have an extra bonus from HBO to make this fight (Pacquiao-Marquez) happen,” Arum told Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
The bonus will give Pacquiao and Marquez more reasons to forge the fifth fight, said Arum.
Marquez is not keen on facing Pacquiao again as they have already fought four times.
He knocked out the Filipino boxer the last time they met in the ring in December.
But Arum said Marquez will eventually relent because of the big money at stake in the fifth fight.
“[HBO] will come out to the plate [on Pacquiao-Marquez 5], that’s why I am enthused,” said the promoter.
