MANILA, Philippines – The University of Sto. Tomas (UST) Tigers ended the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws' six-year domination of UAAP chess after winning the Season 75 tournament.
According to a report by Anthony Divinagracia on the league website, it was UST’s first UAAP chess title since 1999, ending a 14-year-wait for the Tigers. 
Patrick Florendo outplayed FEU’s John Ranel Morazo in deciding match to give UST a 35-point aggregate that clinched the chess title.
The Tamaraws, who were seeking their seventh straight championship, wound up with 33.5 points to settle for second place.
De La Salle finished third with 31.5 points, followed by the University of the East with 28.5 points.
UST’s Timothy So Kua was named Most Valuable Player of the season, edging Florendo and International Master Richelieu Salcedo of FEU.
Meanwhile, Ateneo’s Jan Emmanuel Garcia earned Rookie of the Year honors.
