Pacquiao trainer fires warning shot at Bradley
MANILA, Philippines – The assistant trainer and good friend of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao warned unbeaten American Timothy Bradley Jr. that the “Pacman” is coming for him in their WBO welterweight title showdown on April 12.
Buboy Fernandez, who is handling the early parts of Pacquiao’s training camp as they wait for chief trainer Freddie Roach, lasted only two rounds in the punch mitts with the Fighting Congressman on Tuesday before asking for a breather.
“Medyo naubusan lang tayo ng hangin,” Fernandez said. “Medyo hindi ako nakapaghanda ng maayos talaga. Hindi natin ine-expect na napanatili niya ‘yung stamina niya, napanatili niya ‘yung speed niya.”
Fernandez estimates that Pacquiao has maintained around 80% of his speed and stamina since it has only been a couple of months since he last fought.
“Pero nakikita ‘yung galaw niya, agresibo,” said Fernandez. “Ingat ka na Bradley, may revenge na halo ito. Itutumba ka niya.”
Pacquiao also did some rounds on the double-end ball and speed ball. Earlier Tuesday, he ran 10 rounds around an oval and even played chess.
“Ngayon pa lang, (dine-develop) na natin ‘yung aggressiveness, kasi ‘yun ang gustong makita ni Bradley,” said Pacquiao.
“Ang target talaga is to win convingly, ‘yun lang,” he added.
After spending time at the gym, Pacquiao also found time to play basketball. The Fighting Congressman will spend a month training in General Santos City before leaving for Los Angeles. -- From a report by Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN.
