MANILA, Philippines - Alyssa Valdez of Ateneo and Dindin Santiago of National U are the top candidates for the MVP award of the UAAP Season 75 women's volleyball competitions after putting up solid numbers in major statistical departments.
Valdez emerged as the league's top scorer with a total of 287 points built around 241 spikes, 25 aces and 21 blocks. She ranked fourth in spike with a 36.96 percent success rate and fifth in service (.48 average per set).
For her part, Santiago finished second in scoring with a 250 tally on 195 spikes, 28 blocks, 27 aces. She was No. 5 in spike (36.65 percent) and block (.54 average per set).
Adamson stalwarts Pau Soriano and Shiela Pineda are also contending for the coveted top individual trophy with tallies of 213 and 208, respectively.
Also vying are NU's Myla Pablo (186), Far Eastern's Rosemarie Vargas (183), La Salle's Ara Galang (176), UST's Maika Ortiz (154), La Salle's Season 74 MVP Abigail Maraño (152) and UST's Judy Caballejo (152).
Pablo is a cinch to win Best Spiker honors with a 41.29 percent accuracy rate while Maraño has a lock on Best Blocker plum with .92 average per set and Pineda is tipped for Best Server accolade with .83 average per set.
NU's Jennylyn Reyes showed the way in the chase for the Best Digger (3.42) and Best Receiver (34.76 percent efficiency rate) plums. Ateneo's Jem Ferrer and Far Eastern's Gyzelle Sy are candidates for the Best Setter award with identical 7.40 average per set.
