MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beer has traded point guard Alex Cabagnot to the GlobalPort Batang Pier in exchange for Sol Mercado, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) announced on Tuesday.

SMB, previously the Petron Blaze, also acquired young big man Rico Maeirhofer from Barako Bull in exchange for Jason Deutchman and second round picks in the 2016 and 2017 rookie drafts.

The trades come a day after San Miguel announced that it was tapping Biboy Ravanes as its new coach for the upcoming PBA Commissioners’ Cup.

The trades were approved by the Office of the Commissioner on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Barako Bull, GlobalPort and Air21 were also involved in a three-team trade that saw Barako trade Jonas Villanueva to GlobalPort in exchange for Leo Najorda.

GlobalPort then sent Villanueva to Air21 in exchange for BonBon Custodio.

When the dust settled, Barako had added Najorda and Deutchman to its roster while also acquiring two second round draft picks from San Miguel Beer, while GlobalPort added to its backcourt with Cabagnot and Custodio. Air21 also got a guard in Villanueva.

The PBA website said the trades come after San Miguel’s disappointing stint in the Philippine Cup, when the then-Petron Blaze Boosters finished flat after leading the way for most of the conference and were eliminated by Rain or Shine in five games in the semi-finals.
