MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle Spikers clinched the last spot in the Final Four of the men’s volleyball tournament after defeating the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Tiger Spikers last Saturday at the San Juan Arena.

La Salle needed only three sets to beat UST, 25-18, 26-24 and 25-8, to win their second-round match-up and eliminate the Tiger Spikers from Final Four contention in the UAAP Season 75 tournament.

John Kevin Dela Vega scored 14 points for La Salle, who finished their elimination round campaign with a 9-5 record.

UST finished with a 7-7 record, good for fifth place in the league.

Meanwhile, the Adamson Falcons wrapped up their elimination round campaign with a five-set win over the upset-minded Ateneo Blue Eagles.

Adamson booked a 20-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16 and 15-10 win to finish with a 9-5 record.

In Sunday’s games, the defending champions Far Eastern University (FEU) gained a measure of revenge against the National University (NU) Bulldogs.

FEU scored a 25-20, 25-14, 28-30 and 25-20 win over NU to avenge their first-round loss to the Bulldogs.

But it may have been a costly victory for the Tamaraws as they lost star setter Pitrus de Ocampo to a knee injury during the fourth set.

The Tamaraws and the Bulldogs finished with identical 12-2 records after the elimination round, but NU will get the No. 1 seed by virtue of a better FIVB (Federation Internationale de Volleyball) point differential, according to a UAAP Sports TV report.

In another game, the UP Fighting Maroons edged the UE Warriors in a five-setter, 25-18, 22-25, 25-16, 19-25 and 15-6.

UP won for only the third time this season while relegating the Warriors to a 1-13 finish in Season 75.
