MANILA, Philippines – Crowd-favorites Barangay Ginebra chose a high-scoring wing to be their reinforcement in the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The official league website reported that Ginebra has tabbed 6-foot-6 wing Leon Rodgers, who played for Northern Illinois in college, to be their import in the upcoming conference.

Bringing in Rodgers means that Ginebra will not have to sacrifice minutes for big men Japeth Aguilar and Greg Slaughter.

Rodgers is still playing for the Jilin Northeast Tigers in the Chinese Basketball League, but that stint will end in a week. He will return briefly to the United States before flying to Manila to join Ginebra.

Rodgers has scored 20 points in his last 18 games in the Chinese league, including a 40-point explosion last January 22. He also once drained 15 three-pointers in a March 2009 game.

The 33-year-old Rodgers was also a three-time MVP in the Dutch league.
