MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) – The National University (NU) remained in contention for the UAAP women’s volleyball title after breezing through Far Eastern University (FEU) in straight sets.
The Lady Bulldogs mangled the Lady Tamaraws on Saturday, 25-19, 25-12 and 25-18, at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
Maricar Nepomuceno had 18 points on 16 attacks for NU. She also had 2 blocks.
Nepomuceno said she didn't expect her team to score a straight set win over the 2007-2008 champions.
"S'yempre hindi namin in-expect dahil alam namin hindi basta basta ang FEU, iba ang pride nila eh," she said.
The win improved NU’s record to 8-6, bringing the Lady Bulldogs closer to joint third placers Adamson and UST (6-5).
The Lady Bulldogs now hopes UST will lose its game against Ateneo on Sunday for a do-or-die for a Final 4 seat.
A win by the Tigresses will automatically eliminate NU.
"We're hoping na makapasok sa Final 4," said Nepomuceno.
