MANILA, Philippines – Four-peat seeking De La Salle dropped the first set before claiming the next three to beat National University and gain an outright finals berth on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Spikers, armed with a thrice-to-beat advantage, surrendered the first set 14-25 before grinding it out, 26-24, 25-21, 25-20, to clinch an automatic finals berth.
NU, which lost in straight sets during their first meeting, came out dominant early in the game.
But La Salle, led by Ara Galang and Abi Marano, eventually recovered after taking advantage of the Lady Bulldogs errors.
Galang unloaded 15 points while Marano provided the added kick with 14. With the win, the Lady Spikers extended its unbeaten streak to 30 which dated back from the 2012 season.
Dindin Santiago scored 14 for NU, which will now have to go through the step ladder semifinals.
In the other game, University of Sto. Tomas (UST) concluded its Season 76 campaign with a victory over Adamson University.
The Tigresses, who are already out of the semis race, had it 25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15 against the Lady Falcons.
UST bowed out with a 5-9 win-loss mark.
