MANILA, Philippines – Boxing promoter Bob Arum denied claims that Manny Pacquiao has lost his killer instinct and that he has become a “gentle” boxer.

Arum said fans have always been demanding of a knockout finish from Pacquiao because they have always been going back to Filipino’s second round stoppage of Ricky Hatton in 2009.

“People looked at Pacquiao as being a knockout puncher because they remember the fight with Ricky Hatton, where he laid Hatton out,” said Arum in Boxing Scene. “The truth is that Manny Pacquiao's strength was never as a knockout puncher.”

Arum said that in the Brandon Rios bout, Pacquiao reminded people that he is capable of outboxing anyone.

The promoter said that in that fight, the Filipino used the same strategy that he implemented against Oscar dela Hoya.

“I mean, look at the Oscar fight. He never had Oscar in serious trouble of getting knocked out, but he just beat the crap out of him,” said Arum.

“He (Pacquiao) was the kind of guy, and is the kind of guy, that is very elusive and comes from all angles, that has the southpaw style that scores punches. And he's so quick and when you counter him, he disappears,” he added.

Pacquiao is slated for a rematch against Timothy Bradley on April 12.

His boxing coach, Freddie Roach, said they will focus their training on knocking out the slick fighting American.
