MANILA, Philippines – The camp of Guillermo Rigondeaux has advised Juan Manuel Lopez to shelve his dream of facing Nonito Donaire.
Boris Arencibia, the Cuban’s co-promoter, claims Rigondeaux will handily beat the “Filipino Flash” contrary to the statements of Lopez.
Lopez earlier predicted that Donaire will earn a unanimous decision over Rigondeaux, and that he and the Filipino boxer will probably clash at 128 pounds.
"I think we have to respect Juanma’s opinion, but Rigondeaux will win easier than most people think because he will put Nonito to work and fight him,” said Arencibia in Boxing Scene.
He said the heavy-handed Rigondeaux will wear down Donaire and will go for the kill in the latter rounds.
“Nonito will feel the power of his punches. Rigondeaux is a stylist who breaks his opponents down. And when Nonito starts to get frustrated, that's the moment where Rigondeaux will push his attack," he said.
Donaire and Rigondeaux have already agreed to fight on April 13 in New York.
It will be a unification title bout for the WBO and WBA super bantamweight crowns.
