MANILA, Philippines – Legendary boxing trainer Nacho Beristain doesn’t see the urgency of arranging a fifth fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Beristain, Marquez’s coach, even believes his fighter doesn’t need another Pacquiao fight.
"Personally, I am not convinced by the idea that Juan should fight Pacquiao again,” he said in Boxing Scene.
Beristain agrees with Marquez that they’ve already accomplished what they wanted when the Mexican knocked out Pacquiao last December.
The trainer said he prefers Marquez to fight somebody else.
“We are interested in facing a puncher, a fighter like Brandon Rios. Juan has planned to hold two more bouts before retiring," he said.
He, however, admitted that Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has the last say regarding Marquez’s last fight.
“Most likely he (Marquez) will fight in September, but the last word belongs to [Top Rank's CEO] Bob Arum," concluded Beristain.
Arum earlier said it would be foolish for Marquez to decline a fifth fight with Pacquiao.
He said the Mexican stands to earn more after his sensational win over the Filipino boxing superstar.
"As long as he’s fighting, he’s not a fool. Of course he’s going to fight Manny rather than fight somebody for a lot less money,” Arum said.
