REDWOOD CITY, California – It’s on to the next round for America’s hope in speed skating at the Winter Olympics.

Filipino-American short track speed skater JR Celski advanced in the qualifying round of the 1,000-meter race Wednesday and will compete in the semifinals on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a Filipino-Canadian speed skater’s sacrifice turned out well for his country.

Long track speed skater Gilmore Junio gave up his spot in the 1,000-meter long track race to teammate Denny Morrison, who won the silver medal for Canada.
