MANILA – Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao started training for his April 12 rematch against American Timothy Bradley Jr. Thursday in General Santos City.
Pacquiao ran laps at the oval at the Pedro Antonio Acharon Sports Complex early Thursday morning and will work on shadow boxing at his gym in the afternoon.
“Siyempre, kailangan natin na ipanalo ang laban, at kailangan nating dumaan sa puspusang training at ensayo,” said Pacquiao. “Sapat lang ito na time na mag-start tayo, dalawang buwan bago maglaban. Tamang-tama ito.”
Pacquiao will hold the first month of his training camp in General Santos City and the second month at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.
Pacquiao said he is taking it easy at the start of training camp so as not to overexert himself.
“Isang buwan bago ang laban, matindi at puspusan ang training natin d’yan, serious tayo at talagang umaabot tayo ng 30 rounds sa hapon,” he said. “But this time, start pa lang naman tayo, so easy lang muna para hindi ma-over nama at mabigla.”
Pacquiao also said he has already taken care of all his responsibilities in Congress before kicking off his training camp.
“Inayos ko na lahat ng dapat ayusin sa office bago mag-start,” he said.
Pacquiao will be trying to regain the WBO welterweight belt that he lost to Bradley in their controversial first fight in June 2012. -- With a report from Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN
