MANILA, Philippines – The UFC has granted what Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva wanted: a rematch against heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez.
According to MMA Fighting, Silva versus Velasquez II will headline UFC 160 on May 25, a day short of the one-year anniversary of their first meeting.
Silva lost during his first encounter with the Mexican-American wrestler by a first-round technical knockout.
But the Brazilian fighter made a statement for title contention by knocking out heavy favorite Alistair Overeem in UFC 156 two weeks ago.
"[Silva] and Cain Velasquez had just fought recently, but I'm telling you, the way he looked in this fight and what he did to Alistair, maybe we do the [Velasquez-Silva] fight again," UFC president Dana White earlier said.
Before being named as a heavyweight top contender, Silva made it known that he wanted to fight Velasquez again. “If I could choose, I would pick Cain,” he said.
