MANILA – Boxing promoter Bob Arum said Nonito Donaire Jr.’s achievements in 2012 assures the Filipino Flash of bigger pay checks this year.
Donaire, the WBO super bantamweight champion, was hailed as 2012’s best boxer after four impressive victories over opponents such as Toshiaki Nishioka and Jorge Arce.
In his third-round knockout victory over Arce, the Filipino Flash earned is first million-dollar purse.
Arum said he expects the figure to go up if Donaire keeps on winning in 2013.

Donaire plans to fight frequently this year. His first baby with wife Rachel is also due in 2013.
"Kung makaya ko ‘yung three fights, gagawin ko ‘yung three fights. Kung makakaya ko ang four fights, gagawin ko din yung four fights. Tingnan ko lang kung ano ‘yung ibibigay sa akin for this year,” he said.
His next assignment will be against WBA 122-pound king Guillermo Rigondeaux of Cuba on April 13.
The fight is scheduled to take place in New York.
