Hall-of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach is working on a game plan that will help Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao knock out American Timothy Bradley Jr. in their rematch on April 12, one of Roach’s assistants revealed.
Filipino trainer Marvin Somodio, who has also helped Roach train Russian brawler Ruslan Provodnikov, told Phil Boxing’s Eddie Alinea that Roach wants Pacquiao to spend most of his training camp at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. [http://philboxing.com/news/story-91931.html]
“(Si) Coach Freddie kasi ay nag-prepare ng training program focused on how Manny could knock Bradley out as, according to him, what boxing fans want him to,” said Somodio.
“Coach Freddie, in fact, told us members of the training staff here at Wild Card that he will be flying to Manila right after Zou (Shiming’s) fight in Macau late this month precisely to see Manny’s training right from the start,” he added.
China’s Zou Shiming is set to fight Yokthong Kokietgym on February 22 in Macau, after which Roach will fly to General Santos, where Pacquiao will hold the first part of his training camp.
Roach has said he wants Pacquiao to begin training by March 1, with majority of the camp to be held in Los Angeles.
“Six weeks ang gusto ni Coach Freddie para mag-stay si Manny sa L.A.,” said Somodio. “So ibig sabihin, mga dalawang buwan lang or maybe three months lang ang itatagal ng GenSan camp.”
Pacquiao is challenging Bradley for the WBO welterweight championship in a rematch of their controversial bout in June 2012. The American had won the title off Pacquiao in that fight after receiving a controversial split decision.
