MANILA – Far Eastern University (FEU) – Diliman on Tuesday formally inaugurated its new Sports Center, which will be the new home of the university’s varsity teams.
The FEU Diliman Sports Center will accommodate basketball, volleyball, taekwondo, chess, the school pep squad and fencing, and will augment the artificial pitch already built for the football teams.
The Sports Center also houses the administrative and support services for varsity sports, including the Athletics Office, a team conference room, a dormitory for the athletes, a therapy room, a trophy room and a “tambayan” for the athletes.
FEU’s representative to the UAAP Board, Anton Montinola, said they are considering moving all athletic activities that are usually held in Morayta to the Sports Center.
“There are less distractions here,” Montinola said. “The air is cleaner, and they can focus. The coaches, by coincidence, live in Quezon City, so they prefer coming here.”
“They can practice at night, so yes, we’ve thought about that, and we feel that in the long run, we will be more competitive if we use this facility more often,” he added.
Montinola said they expect construction to finish in one to two years, as they plan to add a fitness gym and a futsal court to the Sports Center.
“We’ll have everything here,” he said. “We hope that with this facility, we will produce more champion teams.”
