MANILA – Azkals defender Carli de Murga is eager to make his return to the Philippine national team this year after dealing with a knee injury for the past six months.
According to the national team’s website, de Murga is expected to return to action for Global FC by the end of February, and is also targeting a spot in the national team that will play in the AFC Challenge Cup in May.
“Hopefully by the end of the month, I’m able to play 100%,” said De Murga. “I want to play in the Challenge Cup and be with the national team.”
He is also looking forward to working with new head coach Thomas Dooley, who took over the reins for the Azkals just last week.
“(Dooley) knows a lot of football and I’m excited to meet him and see how he works,” said the defender. “I want to work with him so he could teach the players many things.”
De Murga debuted for the Azkals in 2011 and featured four times for the team last year.
