MANILA, Philippines – Defending champion San Mig Coffee will try to bounce back from an opening-game loss when they battle Petron Blaze on Wednesday's main game in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Without their import Matt Rogers, the Mixers were forced to go all-Filipino against the Barako Energy last Friday. They lost the game, 75-79.
Now that Rogers has recovered from food poisoning, San Mig coach Tim Cone believes they will be playing on an even field.
"It almost seems like we’re having a second opening game for this conference, but our import, who ran into some bad luck, will be available this time around and we’ll get a chance to see where we are at this point," Cone said on the league website.
Cone hopes they will be able to notch a win on Wednesday.
However, the Mixers will face a hungry Petron Blaze.
The Boosters also lost their opening game against a newly assembled GlobalPort lineup, 92-94.
Petron coach Oscen Racela said defense will be the key in beating a team like San Mig Coffee.
“We have to come out with a better defensive effort against San Mig Coffee. They are a team that execute their system very well, and with scorers like James Yap and PJ Simon, we have to defend better as a team for us to win,” said Racela.
Game time will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Araneta Coliseum.
