MANILA, Philippines – Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez does not want to commit to a fifth fight against his great rival, Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines, claiming that it was not the only option available to him.
Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in the sixth round of their fourth fight last December, and in recent interviews, the Mexican seemed reluctant to face Pacquiao again.
“I think for me, there is no point,” Marquez said. “We already achieved the desired result.”
In an interview with Miguel Rivera of Boxing Scene, Marquez said he and his team will consider all options before making a decision about his next fight.
“Pacquiao, that is only one option. We’ll review every option and then decide what we’re going to do,” Marquez said. “We’re going to analyze everything.”
Following his stunning victory over Pacquiao, Marquez briefly considered retirement. He eventually decided to continue his career after consulting with his family.
“I still feel very good, and I do want to fight again,” Marquez said. “But nothing has been determined (about my next fight).”
“We’ll see what happens.”
Even though Marquez has tried to distance himself from a fifth Pacquiao fight, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum remains confident that he can put the fight together.
