MANILA, Philippines – Petron Blaze opens its campaign against Barangay Ginebra, while Rain or Shine battles Alaska on Sunday for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Boosters will be sporting the same lineup against the Gin Kings at the 6:30 p.m. game.
PBA.ph reported that Petron is still waiting for the result of its trade agreement with Powerade involving Marcio Lassiter, Noy Baclao and Rey Guevarra.
PBA commissioner Chito Salud put it on hold pending official word from Coca-Cola Bottlers on the supposed sale of its franchise to San Miguel Corp.
The Boosters’ addition for now is their import, Nick Fazekas, a US NCAA standout.
Ginebra, meanwhile, will be parading “new faces” against Petron.
Kerby Raymundo and Dylan Ababou will debut as Ginebra players in place of JC Intal, Ronald Tubid and Reil Cervantes.
Import Chris Alexander, a one-time PBA Best Import awardee, will also be returning for Ginebra.
At the 4:15 p.m. curtain raiser, Alaska will try to rebound from its loss to Barako Bull last Friday when it plays against Rain or Shine.
The Aces are still adjusting on a run-and-gun system after abandoning the triangle offense they’ve used under coach Tim Cone.
But they will be tested against the fast-paced Elasto Painters.
Rookie point guard Paul Lee will be matching up with the Alaska veteran LA Tenorio, while Aces’ Adam Parada takes on Rain or Shine’s Willard Crews.
Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao may be pleasantly surprised to see a mirror image of their offense during the game since the Aces have declared their desire to run and gun the way the Elasto Painters do.
