Boxing trainer Robert Garcia is calling on Top Rank promoter Bob Arum to put together a fight between his top fighter, Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios, and Russian brawler Ruslan Provodnikov.
Speaking to Hustle Boss, Garcia said Provodnikov was the fighter that Rios wants to face next, and a showdown against the hard-hitting “Siberian Rocky” will give Rios the motivation needed to rebound from a loss to Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.
“The fight that he wants is Provodnikov,” said Garcia. “If that fight ever happens, if Bob Arum ever puts that fight together, and if Brandon wins that fight, that would be so huge. He’d be on top of the world.”
A win over Provodnikov will be a huge boost to Rios’ confidence and career, especially after losing to Pacquiao so comprehensively.
“Nothing to be ashamed of in losing to somebody like Pacquiao,” Garcia said.
At the same time, Garcia acknowledged that a Provodnikov fight will not be easy for Rios.
“That’s a dangerous (expletive), man, he’s a (expletive) monster,” Garcia said of the Russian, who became a world champion for the first time by stopping Mike Alvarado in October 2013.
But Garcia said Rios can handle Provodnikov, and believes his fighter will be highly motivated for that particular match.
“That’s the fight he’s calling for, that’s the fight he could win, and that’s the fight Brandon would be ready for,” said Garcia.
“That’s the fight that should happen, and that’s the fight that Bob Arum should give him,” he stressed. “Brandon will fight like never before because he wants this fight so bad.”
