MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has effectively terminated the contract of Thiago Silva, who was recently arrested by Florida police for threatening several people with a gun at a Jiu-jitsu school.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the incident took place at the Pablo Popovitch Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Oakland Park.
Silva, who was armed with a gun, allegedly threatened several people inside the academy including his wife, Taysha. He later retreated to his home when the school’s staffers alerted the police.
A police SWAT team later took him into custody.
Silva, who was supposed to fight in UFC 171 this March, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
"This guy will never fight again in the UFC," UFC President Dana White said after the arrest.
The UFC later issued a statement: "The Ultimate Fighting Championship has terminated the contract of Thiago Silva effective immediately."
Silva's problems reportedly emanated from a domestic dispute with his wife.
