MANILA – Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws unleashed deadly form in the second half and eliminated University of the East (UE), 4-1, in the UAAP Season 76 men's football at the FEU-Diliman pitch on Thursday.
With FEU's victory, the last Final Four slot went to De La Salle University (DLSU).
The Tamaraws could face the DLSU Green Booters in next week's Final Four.
De La Salle, currently fourth place with 14 points, needs to score two goals or more against also-ran National University (NU) on Sunday to avoid a semifinals meeting with FEU.
University of Santo Tomas (UST) is in third place with 17 points and will have second-ranked University of the Philippines (22 points) as its Final Four opponent if De La Salle loses, settles for a draw or wins by one goal against NU.
FEU finished as the No. 1 team in the eliminations with 33 points.
Failing to sustain its strong first round showing, UE (12 points) could only muster two points in the second round due to inconsistent play.
Softball action, meanwhile, resumes on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium with UST and UE squaring off in a knockout step-ladder semifinals duel at 9 a.m. The winner will advance against a twice-to-beat NU side in the second step-ladder phase.
Adamson University, the defending champion, is unbeaten in the eliminations and is the finalist-in-waiting with a thrice-to-beat advantage.
Volleyball action at the Arena also resumes with De La Salle eyeing its 12th straight win against UST at 4 p.m. in the featured women’s match. The other women’s duel pits Ateneo against UE (0-11) at 2 p.m.
In men’s play, Ateneo battles UP at 8:30 a.m. and FEU faces UE at 10 a.m.
