MANILA, Philippines – Former UFC champion Vitor Belfort feels he deserves a title shot either against light heavyweight king Jon Jones or longtime middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
Belfort believes his performance against Michael Bisping in UFC on FX fight two weeks ago makes a strong argument about his chances against Jones and Silva.
“I think the way I beat [Michael] Bisping takes me very close to the contender shot," the 35-year-old Brazilian said in MMA Junkie.
Belfort earned a technical knockout against Bisping by dropping the outspoken Briton with a roundhouse kick in the second round.
Although he prefers fighting Silva or Jones, the future MMA hall of famer said he is willing to take on whoever the UFC puts in front of him. He just hopes that his next opponent will put him in contender status.
"I'll accept any fight, but I need to know where this fight is going to take me," Belfort said.
Belfort has lost to both Silva and Jones. In 2011, Silva knocked him out via a vicious front kick to the jaw. Last September, Belfort was close to beating Jones until he was forced to submit in round 4.
