CESAFI players rise in latest NBTC 24 rankings

MANILA, Philippines – It was a busy week in the Philippine high school basketball scene, as the UAAP Season 80 juniors tournament is about to wrap up its elimination round, while the MMBL just concluded its season.

In Week 4, the top five of the Chooks-to-Go/National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) Top 24 rankings stayed the same.

Kai Sotto, the 23 for 23 cadet who stars for the unbeaten Ateneo Blue Eaglets, remains at No. 1. For the second straight week, Ateneo's SJ Belangel edged out La Salle Greenhills' Joel Cagulangan as the best point guard prospect in the country.

Will Gozum, the NCAA Season 93 Juniors MVP who recently committed to University of the Philippines, is at No. 4 while L-Jay Gonzales of Far Eastern University rounded out the Top 5.

There were more movement in the lower rungs. CESAFI student-athletes -- Beirn Laurente from University of Visayas, in particular -- entered the Top 20.

Meanwhile, Alex Visser of Sacred Heart High School officially made his NBTC 24 debut at No. 21.

The Chooks-to-Go/National Basketball Training Center 24 is the first-ever attempt to rank the top high school prospects in the country today.

The weekly ranking used the following criteria: league stats, impact in team, team record, leadership, defense, offense, and level of competition.

These rankings will be used to determine the 24 players who will take part in the annual SM-NBTC High School All-Star Game in March at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
